Town: Louisville, Kentucky Deaf dogs: Tia is all about happiness. She is happy all the time. I found her on the Deaf Dog site. The breeder's husband would not allow Tia to be put down. Therefore, Tia's first doggie mom search, found and put her on the Deaf Dog adoption list. As soon as I was told I had passed evaluation, I drove to FL and picked her up. Tia has the most wonderful personality and truly a "genius." I need to inform you that she allows my husband and I to live with her, and for that honor we pay the bills and clean. Hey don't get me wrong - we get paid back more than we give - Tia's love and devotion. Tricks...um...no just genius. I can sign to her the toy that we will play with and she will go get it. I also give her the ability to chose when I spell toy and sign find. She is getting to where she likes this command the best. All who know her say she is spoiled. We just can't help ourself - those big brown eyes just melt us. *SMILE* Human companion: Elandra A Moran-Eigel and her husband, "We are empty nesters." Other pets: two cats Email: Unavailable |

Town: Louisville, Kentucky Deaf dog: Delia, a 2 year old Dalmatian, was abandoned by her first owner. She was left by the side of I-65 in Tennessee with a 40-pound bag of dog food. A rescue worker picked her up and she made her way to St. Francis Animal Rescue in TN, where she was loved, cared for and fostered. Due to her playful, fun-loving nature, she got in trouble frequently with other dogs - she didn't hear the warning "you're going too far" growl in time to stop playing. Delia is fun loving and has the sweetest disposition for someone who has been abused, abandoned and beaten up by humans and animals. Human companions: Lisa and Dan Cromer, Dana, 17, Kimberly, 13, and Lisa's 82 year old mother, Oma. Other pets: Electra, a sweet, shepherding blue merle Australian Shepherd and Molly, an overweight, elderly, opinionated Beagle. Email: lcromer@jfvs.com |

He was left alone for three years and bounced from oliar to post. As a result he became very protective of his enviroment. Since rescuing him in May, it has been a long journey. His protection aggression is difficult but underneath all of that is the most wonderful dog. He is sweet and loves everyone. Just needs to learn to turst and know that this is his home. ![]() Bobo |
Town: Louisville, Kentucky Deaf dog: Bobo's humans write: Bobo is our "only child" and is wonderful. We rescued him when he was a puppy at the Humane Society. We think he lost his hearing due to a series of severe staff infections but we are not exactly sure. His mommy teaches special education and taught him about 30 ASL signs in the past several years among a variety of other gestures and visual cues to help him get by. He has adapted wonderfully to not being able to hear and even goes to grandmas house to stay a few days at a time. Grandma, Grandpa and all of the nieces and nephews have all learned the sign we use with Bobo so they can all communicate with him too! His "cousin" Jackson, my brothers lab has picked up on the signs as well and will do the same thing we sign to Bobo when they are together. The next dog we get will be a rescue deaf dog for sure! Human companions: Terri and Troy Email: territeo@aol.com Comment:Terri writes: I am a special education teacher and have used Bobo in lessons to help teach the importance of everyone learning sign language because you never know when deafness may strike you! |

I bought her out of the paper, what I didnt know when I got her was that she was deaf until one day I called for her and she did not respond to me at all.
